So this is one I hear a lot—Is it safe to see the dentist during pregnancy?

The short answer is yes, absolutely. In fact, it’s recommended.
During pregnancy, hormone changes can make gums more inflammed, sensitive and increase the risk of gum disease or decay—so a checkup is smart and safe to keep both mum and baby healthy.

So what kind of treatments are safe?

Most routine care like cleans, checkups, and fillings are completely safe—especially in the second trimester.
We always take a conservative approach and tailor the care around the pregnancy stage. If something urgent comes up—like a toothache or infection—we can treat that safely too, with input from your GP or obstetrician if required.

And I’ve heard morning sickness can be rough on teeth—is that true?

Dr Bing
Yes, it can be. Repeated vomiting or acid reflux can weaken enamel, so we often give tips on how to protect your teeth during this time—like rinsing with water and delaying brushing after being sick.
