Pediatric Dentistry: Nurturing Smiles from the Start

We emphasise the importance of preventive care and education in paediatric dentistry. By promoting good oral hygiene habits from a young age and providing regular dental check-ups, we aim to prevent tooth decay and other dental problems before they arise. Our goal is to instil the idea of the importance of oral health in children. This way, they can become responsible towards maintaining good oral health throughout their lives.

Paediatric dentistry is a specialised branch of dentistry focused on the oral health of infants, children, and adolescents. Whether it's the first dental visit of your child or ongoing treatment, our team is dedicated to delivering compassionate care in a welcoming and supportive environment. The child-friendly approaches by our dentists keep parents free from stress as they know their little ones are in safe hands.

Understanding Tooth Decay in Children

At Innova Dental, we recognize the importance of educating parents about the factors that contribute to tooth decay in children. Understanding these causes is crucial for promoting good oral health habits and preventing dental problems in young patients.

Poor Oral Hygiene

Inadequate brushing and flossing can lead to the buildup of plaque on children's teeth, increasing the risk of tooth decay. Children may not properly clean their teeth each time, especially in hard-to-reach areas, making them susceptible to cavities.

Dietary Habits

Consuming sugary beverages and acidic foods can contribute to tooth decay among children. Frequent consumption of sugary snacks and beverages fuels the growth of bacteria in the mouth, which produce acids that erode tooth enamel over time.

Lack of Fluoride Exposure

Fluoride is essential for strengthening tooth enamel and shielding against cavities. Children who do not receive adequate fluoride exposure through fluoridated water, toothpaste, or professional treatments may be at a risk of tooth decay.

Childhood Caries

Early childhood caries, also known as baby bottle tooth decay, can occur when infants or young children are consistently exposed to sugary liquids, such as milk, formula, or juice, especially when given in a bottle or sippy cup at bedtime or naptime.

Poor Dental Care Habits

Delaying dental check-ups and treatments can contribute to tooth decay in children. Regular dental visits allow for prompt detection and treatment of dental problems, preventing them from progressing into more serious issues.

Genetic Factors

Some children may be genetically predisposed to tooth decay due to factors such as the composition of their saliva or the strength of their tooth enamel. Understanding these genetic influences can help parents take proactive steps to support their children's oral health.

Little Teeth, Big Smiles: Good Dental Habits in Children

Introduce dental care habits as soon as your child's first tooth erupts. Cleaning their gums with a soft cloth or infant toothbrush sets the foundation for good oral hygiene.

Show your child how to brush their teeth using a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste. Encourage them to brush twice a day, ensuring they cover all surfaces of their teeth and gums.

Encourage a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and dairy products while limiting sugary snacks and drinks, which can contribute to tooth decay.

Educate about importance of regular dental check-ups for children, starting from their first tooth. Routine visits allow prompt detection and prevention of dental problems.

Focus on your dental health and openly discuss your dental experiences with your child. By demonstrating self-care practices, you reinforce the importance of oral health.
