HOW DOES TEETH WHITENING WORK?
Teeth whitening brightens your smile by using a gentle gel that breaks down stains on your teeth. The gel, often containing safe ingredients like Carbamide Peroxide, is applied in a custom-fitted tray to ensure even coverage. Over time, it works to lift away discoloration, gradually revealing a whiter, more radiant smile. With proper care and guidance from your dentist, you'll enjoy a safe and effective transformation.
Things to Remember
Following these guidelines will help ensure a safe, effective, and comfortable tooth whitening experience. If you have any questions, please contact the friendly team at Innova Dental.

Brush, Brush!
Always clean your teeth before each whitening session.
Pay Attention
Use only a small amount of gel to prevent overflow.
Sensitivity
If sensitivity occurs, consider reducing the frequency of use (for example, every other day).
PREPARATION
Clean Your Teeth: Brush thoroughly with your regular toothbrush, floss, or use specialist brushes. Rinse off all toothpaste.
APPLICATION
Gel Placement: Apply a small amount of gel inside the supplied tray in the area that contacts the front surface of each tooth.
Avoid Overfilling: Ensure you do not overfill the trays to prevent gel from spilling over your gums.
Remove Excess: After inserting the tray, gently remove any excess gel from your gums using a tissue, cotton bud, or dry toothbrush.
TREATMENT OPTIONS
Choose the method that best suits your routine:
Overnight Treatment: Insert the filled trays and wear them overnight.
Daytime Treatment:
Method 1: Use twice a day for 30–60 minutes (with at least 2 hours between sessions).
Method 2: Use once a day for 60–120 minutes.
Most patients follow a regimen of 10 days with 10% Carbamide Peroxide, followed by 10 days with 16%. One 5ml syringe of gel typically lasts 10 days.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Teeth whitening is a safe and effective procedure when done under the professional guidance of your dentist. Here are some important warnings to keep in mind:
If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any underlying dental issues, please consult your dentist before beginning the treatment.
If you experience excessive sensitivity, stop the treatment immediately and contact your dentist.
AFTER-CARE
Morning Routine: Remove the trays and rinse your mouth for 1 minute with a fluoride-containing mouthwash. Wash the trays with cold water and dry them thoroughly before storage.
Brushing: Wait at least 20 minutes before brushing your teeth with a fluoride-containing toothpaste.
Maximise Whitening: Avoid eating or drinking (other than water) for one hour after removing the trays.
Tray Care: Rinse the trays with cold water and dry them thoroughly before storage.
SCHEDULE YOUR NEXT APPOINTMENT
Our dentists recommend whitening your teeth based on your unique lifestyle and oral care needs. Many patients enjoy lasting bright results for up to a year or more after initial treatment. However, if you regularly consume foods or drinks that can stain teeth such as coffee, tea, or red wine, you may need to touch up more frequently.
Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, it's completely normal to experience a bit of sensitivity during tooth whitening. This sensitivity usually lasts a few days after treatment. If it becomes severe or lasts longer than expected, please get in contact with us.
If your sensitivity is more pronounced, trays can be filled with a sensitive toothpaste such as Duraphat, Sensodyne, or Tooth Mousse. This can help alleviate discomfort while still allowing you to continue your whitening treatment.
If the gel comes into contact with your skin, simply wash the area with soap and water immediately. In the unlikely event that you swallow a significant amount of gel, drink plenty of water or milk to help dilute it and reduce any potential irritation.
Although rare, an allergic reaction may occur. If you notice widespread swelling in your mouth or experience discomfort beyond normal sensitivity, stop using the product immediately and contact Innova Dental for further advice.
The gel contains oxidizing agents that can damage clothing, so handle it with care. For prolonged storage, keep the gel refrigerated and always store it out of reach of children to ensure its safety and effectiveness.
